A Message from Our CEO

Dear MGA Community, 

As 2025 closes, MGA Thermal is accelerating toward commercialisation and scale. This quarter delivered major progress across technology, partnerships, and investment. 

Our demonstration plant passed simultaneous charge and discharge testing this quarter, confirming the reliability of our thermal energy storage system under real-world conditions. 

Commercial traction is building with projects like Tronox’s Kwinana deployment moving into FEED and a growing pipeline positioning MGA as a leader in industrial decarbonisation. We were also proud to be named a finalist in the AFR Energy Awards and featured in Hunter Renewal’s energy transition video series - recognition that underscores our leadership in renewable heat. 

Looking ahead to 2026, our priorities are clear: convert FEED studies into signed projects, close and deliver our first client system, and undertake the next phase of manufacturing expansion. With rising customer demand, 2026 promises to be transformative for MGA Thermal and the industries we serve. 

Thank you to the MGA staff and you, our stakeholders, for your continued support. Our offices will close from 24 December, reopening on 5th January. We look forward to reconnecting in the new year.

Simultaneous Electrical Charging and Steam Discharge Testing

Industrial operations often depend on steam - and any interruption can mean lost productivity, increased costs, and unnecessary complexity. One of the key capabilities of MGA Thermal’s energy storage system is simultaneous electrical charging and steam discharge - enabling uninterrupted steam supply even while the thermal battery is recharging.

We’ve completed testing to demonstrate this capability under industrial operating conditions. Using our demonstration plant in Tomago, we showed that the system maintains stable steam delivery while varying charging power in real time.

Commercial Update

New Tool Alert: Compare Thermal Storage vs Fuel Boilers

Our friends at Aratherm and the Australian Alliance for Energy Productivity have recently launched a Heat Battery Estimator. This online tool allows Australian manufacturers to explore the benefits of electrifying process heating using thermal energy storage to reduce energy costs and emissions. The tool models a hybrid gas / electric system, allowing you to quickly gauge the trade-off between energy cost and the level of decarbonisation. A key data point is that thermal storage can already displace over 75% of natural gas consumption in most states at a lower cost of delivered heat, and in NSW and VIC thermal storage can displace 100% of natural gas at a lower cost of heat.

Climate Connect Sydney brought together some of the brightest minds in climate tech - and we were thrilled to have our CFO, Anna Starrett, present to a room full of engaged investors. Held at the Sydney Opera House, Anna’s presentation sparked genuine interest in our technology - and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

We have recently completed the second round of our organisation-wide Achieving Our Potential initiative. During this initiative volunteers contributed their thoughts on enhancing safety and driving positive change, with the highest-voted ideas shaping our next steps.  

From these sessions, four key focus areas emerged: strengthening accountability, refining project planning, expanding leadership safety training, and enhancing communication across the organisation. Actions are now underway to support these priorities, ensuring we continue to build a workplace that is collaborative, safe, and aligned for success. The Achieving Our Potential initiative remains a cornerstone of our commitment to continuous improvement.

R&D Update

Reliability Proven: MGA Blocks Stand Strong 

MGA Thermal’s R&D team continues to push the boundaries of Thermal Energy Storage with exciting developments that reinforce the reliability of our MGA Blocks.

Recent inspections inside the demo plant using a borescope have shown that the MGA Blocks are performing exactly as expected. No changes were observed in the material structure, confirming their durability and stability under real operating conditions.
